A description of the NYC Specialized High School DREAM Program follows:

What is DREAM? DREAM is formally known as DREAM-SHSI. In short, DREAM is prep for the SHSAT, the NYC DOE Specialized High Schools Admissions Test. The DREAM Program is offered by the NYC DOE. Participation in DREAM occurs before you take the SHSAT. DREAM is an opportunity for "certain disadvantaged students" to participate in an extracurricular program that entails SHSAT prep. Students accepted to DREAM go to actual classes covering a variety of math, English, and other topics. DREAM classes traditionally start on Saturdays around March through June, then weekdays during July and August, and then again on Saturdays from September until SHSAT testing occurs; the SHSAT traditionally takes place in the fall of grade 8.

To be eligible for DREAM, the following MUST be so:

Your school contacts you about the DREAM application. IF you meet whatever the DOE determines as the DREAM eligibility mentioned above, then your guidance counselor will provide you with AN APPLICATION. The application may require additional information from you. An application does not guarantee acceptance into DREAM. Once you submit your application, if you are accepted into DREAM you will be contacted by the DOE about participation dates, details, and requirements.

DREAM does not accept new students in grade 6 or grade 8. DREAM DOES NOT GUARANTEE entry to a SHS. You must still take the SHSAT in order for it to be determined whether you get an offer to a SHS.

Note that the DREAM Program is not the same as the Discovery Program. For information about Discovery see https://www.GregsTutoringNYC.com/shsat-Discovery
